Baker's Blooms

Most of the buildings down the street from the loft garden are your basic small industrial style. Baker's building is a little different.

He has roses.

This lovely and

this black rose.

The secret to his rose success?

No fertilizer. Just some iron filings every once in a while.

These roses bloomed throughout the heat of this summer and are totally covered in blooms and buds now. Very nicely done.

  1. Hmmm.... Low iron causes chlorosis and reduces the plants ability to absorb nutrients from the soil. I've seen it in my plants before. I usually give them Ironite in the winter to help them with their spring growth. What wonderful roses!! Considering the hellish summer you had, he must have watered a lot, too.

  2. I guess he has some gorgeous roses, wow! And to think all he gave them was iron filings. I would never have thought of doing that. Carl has enough iron here, we could grow Super Roses, but somehow I fear there's more to it than that. Such a gorgeous color these are, too.

  3. As you know, I am ignorant in the way of roses. But I love that black rose, enough to want one.

Poor future dead in one year, black rose.
